Is Claude AI down? Anthropic’s chatbot and website facing issues, report thousands of users

Anthropic’s artificial intelligence (AI) assistant Claude appeared to run into issues Tuesday evening, with outage reports on Downdetector.com spiking as users flagged problems with its chat function and website.
Reports of outages in the US spiked around 6.30 PM EST on Tuesday (5.10 AM IST on Wednesday), reaching nearly 3,000 complaints.
Social media users react
As reports of outages spiked on Downdetector.com, netizens weighed in on what was happening.
“Claude AI is tripping right now. It is like 1995 HTML hell (sic),” wrote one user, while another commented, “Claude’s UI now looks like it’s from Netscape Navigator.”
Another user, meanwhile, alleged that Claude AI’s developers may have been behind the outage: “engineers deleted the CSS file”.
“They hired new devs or are letting juniors literally use Claude to code Claude LMAO. Look at the artifacts. Everything in the UI has been awful,” weighed in another user.
Others, meanwhile, expressed concern that their projects could be affected.
“One of my projects – 100+ conversations – disappeared. can’t find it after reload, the website is down, app is down,” wrote one concerned user.
Another added in exasperation, “Got the membership today and this happened. Smh!! (sic).”
What has Anthropic said?
Anthropic’s website, which shows the status of Claude AI and associated services, acknowledged some issues, with the date 18 February 2026 showing, “CSS errors on Claude.ai”.
As of 17 February, 11:56 PM UTC, Anthropic said it was investigating the issue before announcing, “A fix has been implemented, and we are monitoring the results.”
Shortly afterwards, at 12.10 AM UTC on 18 February, Anthropic declared, “This incident has been resolved.”
The status of Claude AI on 18 February 2026 also showed no major disruptions, with Anthropic reporting 99.61% uptime on claude.ai and 99.82 % uptime on platform.claude.com (formerly console.anthropic.com) over the past 90 days.
Similarly, other services such as Claude API (api.anthropic.com) and Claude Code showed no major disruptions on Tuesday, reporting 99.68% and 99.7% uptime respectively over the past 90 days.
Claude for Government also showed no issues, with the service showing a 100% uptime since data became available.
$30 billion raised in latest funding round
Tuesday’s outage comes days after Anthropic raised $30 billion in its Series G funding round led by GIC and Coatue, valuing the AI company at $380 billion post-money.
The funding raise came three years after Anthropic reported its first dollar in revenue.
“Today, our run-rate revenue is $14 billion, with this figure growing over 10x annually in each of those past three years,” the company said in a statement.
“This growth has been driven by our position as the intelligence platform of choice for enterprises and developers. The number of customers spending over $100,000 annually on Claude (as represented by run-rate revenue) has grown 7x in the past year,” Anthropic said.
“And businesses that start with Claude for a single use case—API, Claude Code, or Claude for Work—are expanding their integrations across their organizations. Two years ago, a dozen customers spent over $1 million with us on an annualized basis. Today that number exceeds 500. Eight of the Fortune 10 are now Claude customers,” the company added.
