ISKCON Myanmar Leaders Visit Earthquake-Effected Regions; Help Arrives from the UK

ISKCON Myanmar National Council has released a follow-up statement after visiting the earthquake-affected regions. “Our hearts are heavy witnessing the suffering of so many innocent lives,” said Priya Gopinath Das, General Secretary, “We have personally met affected devotee families and pledged to support them through this difficult time.”Apart from the unfortunate departure of Ravi Simkhara, no other loss of life has been reported among the devotee community. About half a dozen devotee families have experienced major damage to their homes, with some structures in danger of collapsing. Nearly every devotee household in the affected areas has suffered some level of damage, and all are affected by the loss of power, infrastructure, and services across the city. The official death toll is approaching 3,500, with rescue efforts hampered by intense rainstorms, increasing the risk of disease.
